HELLO GARDENは、地域住民それぞれが新しい暮らしをみつける、まちの実験広場です。自分にとっての心地よい暮らしとはなにかを一人ひとりが考えるきっかけや、それぞれが試行錯誤し暮らしをアップデートするための仕組みをつくることで、このまちの一人ひとりの暮らしがより豊かになることを目指しています。
HELLO GARDEN is an experimental square in the community where each local resident can discover a new way of living. We aim to enrich the lives of each and every person in the community by creating an opportunity for them to think about what a comfortable life means for them. We do this by creating a mechanism for each person to have their lives “updated” through trial and error.

プロセスを実験する
2014年春、まったく手を入れていない空き地に「HELLO GARDEN」と名前をつけ、オープンの告知を地域に出したところから活動がスタートしました。一般的な場づくりは事業内容を決め、空間を設計・工事するというプロセスを経てオープンに至ります。しかし、既存の空間をまちの人々と使ってみながら「地域にとって本当に必要な場とはなにか」を共に考えることでしか生み出せない場があるのではと考えました。まちの人々と共に様々な活動をしていく中で、少しずつソフトとハードを整備していくという場づくりのプロセスの実験をしてきました。
Experimenting with the process of placemaking
Our activities began in the spring of 2014, when we named a completely untouched vacant lot “HELLO GARDEN” and sent out a notice to the community announcing the opening. In general, the process of placemaking involves deciding on a project, designing and constructing a space, for the opening. However, we realized that it is essential to work with the people in the community in the process of building a kind of space that is truly necessary for the community. Through various activities with the people of the community, we have gradually been developing both the tangible and intangible ways of placemaking.

メディアの3つの役割
HELLO GARDENは、地域の中で3つの役割を担っています。１つめは、憩う、遊ぶ、商う、表現するなどといった様々なふるまいを受け入れるプラットフォームの役割。２つめは、「やってみたい！」を実現するために背中を押したり、ノウハウを伝授したり、共に考えたりしながら人に寄り添うサポートの役割。そして3つめが、人に新しい価値観を提案したり問いを投げかけたりすることで、暮らしを考えるきっかけを提供するメディアの役割。この3つの役割が関係し合うことで、人々の暮らしに変化を生み出しています。
Three roles :
platform, support, and media
HELLO GARDEN plays three roles in the community: First, it serves as a platform for various activities such as relaxation, entertainment, commerce, and expression. Secondly, it serves as a support system for people by providing expertise and ideas to help them actualize their inner voice saying “I want to try this!” The third role is to act as a media outlet that provides opportunities for people to think about their lives by proposing new values and questions to them. These three roles interrelate to create changes in people’s lives.
用途を限定しない場所
HELLO GARDENには、特定の用途がありません。憩いの場、遊び場、学び場、出会いの場、商いの場、表現の場。利用者は、それぞれの暮らしに応じて必要な場をHELLO GARDENに求め、それぞれのやり方でこの実験場を活用しています。訪れる人によって「HELLO GARDENとはなにか？」という問いに対する答えが異なるということが、HELLO GARDENの価値の一つです。一見なにもない広場に見える場所ですが、使い手たちによって多様な表情を見せる場所へと日々進化しています。
A place with no specific use
HELLO GARDEN has no specific use. It could be a place for relaxation, entertainment, education, encounters, private business, or expression. Users seek out HELLO GARDEN as a place that suits their individual needs, and utilize this experimental space in their own ways. The answer to the question, “What is HELLO GARDEN? “is what gives value to it. At first glance, it may appear to be an empty open space, but it is evolving day by day into a place that shows a variety of expressions depending on the people who use it.
